Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) or linear high-pressure polyethylene (HDPE) is an elastic soft plastic with a density between 0.915 to 0.925 g/cm 3 and a higher proportion of molecular short branches. Metallocene polymerization with special catalysts is used to make LPVD, which is the most complicated and unique process. Linear low density polyethylene is tear, impact, and puncture resistant, with a low density and high ductility. It resembles the PND in this way. LPVD produces a thinner film, which saves material and reduces the environmental impact. Although this polymer is suitable for a wide range of applications, it is most commonly used in the production of packaging films due to its excellent clarity, durability, and strength. The output of films consumes nearly all of the LPVD consumed in Russia (stretch films made by blowing and on cast lines, multilayer shrink films and films for lamination). At the same time, linear polyethylene is almost never used in the manufacture of garbage bags and bags in our country. LPVD will gradually displace LDPE in single-layer applications and in the production of multilayer films in the near future, as more technologically advanced equipment is developed.
The properties of linear low density polyethylene are somewhere in the middle of those of LDPE and HDPE. In contrast to LDPE, however, LPVD has a more uniform distribution of polymer groups by molecular weight. High chemical resistance; high durability properties, both at sufficiently high and low temperatures; high resistance to cracking; increased puncture resistance are the key advantages of linear low density polyethylene.
The physical and chemical properties of linear polyethylene are the strongest.
The tensile strength and elongation at break of LDL are the strongest. Foundry polyethylene can be used to package hot goods because of its high melting point. LPVD has excellent melt elasticity due to the presence of a large number of short lateral branches that slip over each other during deformation and do not produce major internal stresses. This allows for a film thickness of six to twenty-five microns. LDL, on the other hand, is less transparent than other forms of polyethylene due to its high crystallinity. Optical special additives are added to the LPVD to make it more translucent.
